Design inspiration: Magnolias

I had never seen magnolias before I went to college. We had a lot of these trees on campus, and when they started to bloom, I just fell in love. The flowers are so gorgeous. There's something about how they're simultaneously substantial and more delicate than you'd think, that they stand almost at attention while they're blooming, and that the particular shade of pale pink photographs so beautifully against all different kinds of skies (blue, gray, rainy, anything!) or other backgrounds.

I really want to design something knitted that captures the form and beauty of these flowers, and this weekend a friend gave me the perfect shades of pink yarn to make it happen. Hooray!
