Last gasp of summer

Knitting pictures tomorrow! For now, enjoy a few final snippets from summer travel and party adventures. School starts on Monday (I am REALLY excited, but looking through summer photos sure makes me wish it could last just a little bit longer).

Back to knitting so I will have an almost-finished sock to show you tomorrow!

Gratitude...uh, Sunday

Girl talk
I've gotten in quite a bit of quality time with all my girls this week, since Nicole is finally back in town. I'm feeling refreshed and relaxed after catching up with everybody.

NOT flying off the Handle
There were several opportunities for drama-induced moments of crazy this week, but I side-stepped them all like a champ. Avoiding drama and even defusing it - that's what I call success.

Things In-the-making
Renegade was a blast today, and I found a truly lovely sock yarn. It's already on the needles! I keep promising pictures, but this time I mean it. I'm going to find that camera attachment tomorrow if it kills me. And all the dust in my room just might...

Fairs and Festivals

This weekend I am not doing any work at all! Today is the Chicago Celtic Festival in Grant Park, and tomorrow is RENEGADE! Can you tell I'm super excited? This is definitely a chance for me to celebrate finishing a paper and getting a paycheck and, well, there are lots of excuses for celebrating :)
Hope you all have exciting weekend plans, too.

So I finished....

You're Watership Down!

by Richard Adams

Though many think of you as a bit young, even childish, you're
actually incredibly deep and complex. You show people the need to rethink their
assumptions, and confront them on everything from how they think to where they
build their houses. You might be one of the greatest people of all time. You'd
be recognized as such if you weren't always talking about talking rabbits.

Yes, I'd much rather do things like take online quizzes than actually work on my paper. But I did manage to finish it even while I played on the internet!!! Now I just have to wait for my yarn to arrive...

Wish me luck!

I just made a rule that I hate but that I have to follow!

I'm not allowed to knit until I finish this dumb paper (okay, I hope it's not actually dumb, because that would be bad for my working relationship with this particular professor, who happens to be my advisor and my boss, but you know what I mean). I want to finish it by tomorrow night. Wish me luck and send happy knitting vibes my way so that I really feel the incentive to write faster.

In the meantime, look at what I get to knit when this ban comes off:

Rusted Root by the ladies at ZephyrStyle. I ordered periwinkle yarn from KnitPicks instead of red, so I guess mine won't actually look Rusted. Ugh. Stupid paper.
Shannon, thanks for the comment. The Mary Jane slippers are from a pattern sold by Jen of Piddleloop. Her store is closed right now until Sep. 18, because she's on vacation, but normally you can find it there no problem. I love the slippers, too, and they make great gifts :)

PS. the music last night was wonderful, and it was a perfectly beautiful night for sitting on the lawn at Millennium Park. I only got one mosquito bite!

Gratitude Saturday

Today I'm thankful for

Dooce. Makes me laugh out loud, especially this one: http://www.dooce.com/archives/nubbin/08_22_2007.html

Energy and Exercise. I missed a few days at the gym this week, and I definitely noticed a huge drop in my energy level. I made it in yesterday and today, so I'm feeling much more upbeat and motivated. Good thing, since I have to spend the afternoon in the library writing a paper.

Spending time with Friends. In the summer, Chicago puts on so many free music programs. Last Sunday I went to the Jazz Festival (amazing), and tonight I'm meeting people downtown for an opera showcase.

Still can't find the camera cord. This is getting ridiculous! I have so much knitting to show, and I want to do a real update with the backlogged stuff before I tell you about my new project. Hopefully I'll locate it soon...
Have a great weekend, all!
