FO time: the green ones

The socks have been finished since the middle of last week, but I was finally able to drag myself away from working on papers to get pictures of them.

It's almost the end of the school year and the end of my Master's program - I get to graduate next Friday! I have 3 papers to write (one of which I'll actually continue working on during the summer, so we'll just pretend that 2 is the official countdown number), a presentation to give, and some packing to do for my trip home to CA.

There's a new knitting project on my needles. You'll get a sneak peak tomorrow!

Socks in Bloom

Green things are growing all around Hyde Park, making my walks to and from campus really pretty! The green socks are also growing, and hopefully they'll be finished soon. You want to see my progress? No problem. One is totally finished, and the other is waiting for me to turn the heel flap and get going on the foot.

You'll also notice a significant difference between the photo taken without flash and the one taken with. Right. It's my goal for the summer to start taking better pictures, you know, timing things so that I get shots during the day when the sun is out!

Happy Knitting, all!

For further goofing off.

This is what Fridays are for, right?

We'll be back to your regularly scheduled sock coverage by tomorrow.

And moving right along...

New socks are on the needles!

These are also KnitPicks Palette yarn, in two shades of green, and I think I'll be doing something very similar to the pink and white socks - making a dark green cuff, switching to light green for the "body" of the sock, and making dark green toes. PS, the colors in the photo are really inaccurate, but I didn't catch the sun today.

In school news, I had a fantastic meeting with a professor today. We talked about the final paper I'll be writing for his class (oh my goodness, final papers are due in about two weeks - this is crazy!), but the best part was hearing him say, "We're so glad you decided to stay here" for the PhD program. It's nice to feel popular :)

Sock #2, completed yesterday afternoon, joins its brother for a photo shoot: Ready for their close-upNicole and I had our own photo shoot last night, during which we pretended to drink alcohol (yes, we really took pictures of ourselves acting like drunken fools when there was no drinking involved). Then we spent a few hours doing imitations of people, laughing uproariously, and playing wardrobe swap. Actually, there wasn't much swapping going on; I just stole all the clothes she cleared out of her closet. I'll make sure to put up pictures when I wear my cute new outfits :) And we watched Beverly Hills 90210. How could I have missed it the first time around?!

Sock Days

I actually am paying attention to Project Spectrum's current colors, even though my knitting time has been sort of limited lately. Right now we have pink, yellow, and green, and I've been partial to the pink...

This first pair is using yarn I bought in Massachusetts over spring break, and I love that the stripes are so chunky (I am also secretly very happy that I decided not to make them match up exactly. I am not a very matchy sort of person).
It's Austermann Step in Color 08. This was my first time using this particular yarn, and while I found it quite nice to knit with, my usual choice of US3 needles was not quite right; the socks stretched out way too much during their first wearing, so I think I can only wear them around the house instead of in shoes, which makes me a little sad.
What's not sad? Pink and white socks! This is KnitPicks Palette wool, and while this is a picture of sock #1, sock #2 is now on the needles at about this same point in the knitting, so I should be able to finish the pair this weekend.
Thought I'd leave you with a more naturalistic shot... my knitting is usually just piled up all over itself, not arranged so neatly as in the other pictures!

Get Ready!

I will have an update tomorrow night no matter what attempts to get in the way between me and my computer. There is knitting on the needles, knitting off the needles, and pictures in the camera, so get ready!
