Oh man, I just set up an emergency visit to the dentist for tomorrow morning, because one of my molars is pitching a giant fit in the back of my mouth. To keep my mind off of the discomfort and the potential financial ruin I'm now facing (drama, drama, drama!), I'm just going to keep on knitting...
Yarn
This is Knit Picks Swish worsted weight yarn in a tonal colorway called Thunderhead. It's a complex mix of grays and blues that really does evoke a storm gathered over the ocean. As usual, Knit Picks has delivered a beautiful colorway and a very soft wool with plenty of bounce and stitch definition. I can already tell that this is going to be a very warm hat, even with its curving stacks of eyelets.
Pattern and Mods
The pattern I'm using (and thoroughly enjoying) is the Milanese Lace Topper by tante ehm. The chart is very easy to read, and the pattern works intuitively. I have made some modifications, not least of which was a switch to larger needles. A 20" finished circumference is just not big enough for my giant noggin! Instead of knitting a stockinette brim, I used a 1x1 twisted rib; hopefully this will help the hat stay in place even if the Chicago winter winds try to knock it off my head. I may also have messed up and knitted an extra repeat of the lace chart, but I'm going to pretend it was on purpose to get a slouchy hat. Yes, that's what happened. I was not at all distracted by the CRAZY episodes of Vampire Diaries season 2 that I was watching while knitting...
I think the lace looks beautiful so far, and I can't wait to see this thing once it's blocked. These pictures are a bit out of date, because I'm about to start the crown decreases - just 12 rows to go before it's all over! If the final product turns out to be as awesome as I am imagining it will, there might be a few more of these hats in my future. Who wants one for Christmas?

ive tried Berroco Comfort for all my acrylic needs. I wish oh I wish i could wear wool hats and sweaters. I can only wear it on my worn out feet and hands.....

ooh, I love the yarn you are using!! I'm working on a new design, and its' a good thing I love the yarn (TFA yellow label DK) or I'd be really annoyed. i think I need a quick project though- sometimes those long projects really get you!
