Cincinnati road trip

N and I really enjoyed our weekend road trip down to Cincinnati!  She was able to find what might be the perfect apartment (keep your fingers crossed all the paperwork goes through okay), and we got to explore some really fun parts of town.

First we got to drive through a whole lot of Indiana. Normally we only make it down to nearby spots like Munster or Hammond to shop at Target, but this time we saw Indianapolis, too!

The first day in Cincinnati was reserved for checking out apartments near N's new university. I really liked this door.

Because everything was closer together than we expected, we also had time to stop by a few interesting and unique tourist spots.  These next shots were taken in the front room of the American Sign Museum.  Apparently there is a whole warehouse full of more signs, but we didn't have time to join the hour-long tour.

I didn't know this, but there are a heck of a lot of police museums scattered around the Midwest.  We stopped by one that's sponsored by the Cincinnati police historical society.  I had to get a picture of this great poster.  N was entranced by a cabinet full of weapons collected by an old-timey defense lawyer and kept in his law office.

Next we stopped at the site of the former Natural History Museum, where a pack (herd?) of woolly mammoths still stands by the side of the road.

And then, my favorite stop from the list of "we have 20 minutes before our next apartment viewing appointment" attractions: Ductwork Man! He towers over the parking lot of a factory managing to look pretty cute.

Saturday night we went to the monster truck show. It was so fun to see all the little kids in the crowd having an amazing time cheering on their favorites from among these hilarious looking trucks.  We were really excited about getting a glimpse of some of the more famous trucks, like Gravedigger, but he flipped over too early into his freestyle exhibition.  I went to this show not knowing what to expect, and I had a fantastic time!

I've got a lot more pictures, including a whole set from the Creation Museum in Kentucky, where we spent our Sunday afternoon. We also made a stop at a nice yarn store, where I picked up a crazy zauberball... I'm already halfway through a sock after yesterday's library reading time.

Today it's back to the library before this afternoon's trip to the comic book store with a fun group of friends (apparently the comic book store is going to be my new Wednesday afternoon hangout! I kind of love it) and tonight's Mahjong game.  What are you up to today?
