This batt of merino, from FatCatKnits, went incredibly fast [NB I went over to the website just so I could add that link, and I lost about fifteen minutes; you've been warned]. I think I did all the spinning and plying over the course of 48 hours and the knitting over the next 10. The whole thing is sort of a fabulous squooshy blur.
Merino was probably the most difficult spinning I've done so far, partly because I made an effort to spin bulky, thick and thin singles and partly because of its own qualities. A lady at knit night described merino as "spongy" fiber, which sums it up pretty accurately. There was a lot of drop spindle dropping and there might have been some foul language, but the end result is definitely worth it. This hat is unbelievably soft and warm. Someone is going to luuuuuuurve her Christmas present!
