FO: Traveling Woman

Shawl 4 of 10 for the 10 Shawls in 2010 Challenge!

Also previewed here, my newest nail polish in the perfect purple I've been hoping to find for years now! Sally Hansen Insta-Dry in Urgent Orchid (I found it at Target, in case you need some yourself!)

Pattern: Traveling Woman by Liz Abinante
Yarn: Knit Picks Shimmer hand-dyed lace yarn in Cumulus, approx. 420 yards
Needles: US 4 straights

Mods: The pattern allows for varying the number of stitches in the stockinette portion and for doing as many repeats as you want of Chart A, so I just did as much as I could to use up the yarn. I wouldn't really classify that as a modification so much as resourcefulness :)

Verdict: I love love love the colorway and how it makes very subtle gray, gray-blue, and gray-taupe stripes, especially in the stockinette portion.

The fabric is airy and still quite warm, which means it will be perfect for cool evenings this summer (just in case we get any - last night was blazing hot!) and into the fall. I'm not sure I'd knit the shawl again, simply because there are so many other patterns out there I can't wait to try.
I'm looking particularly at Ishbel, and I'm thinking Knit Picks Stroll Tonal in Foliage and Golden Glow (one each for my two sisters... shhhh, don't tell!). Any other patterns you'd recommend before I place a Knit Picks order? Let's chat in the comments :)

Looks great! I especially love the third picture down. It looks like alligator skin until you figure out what you're looking at.

I really like that in the lace-weight yarn. I think it's prettier than in sock.

Speaking of shawls, did you see the new Knitty surprise?

Terby, thanks for the tip! I always miss the posting of the surprises, and they're always so good.
