Gloomy Sunday

Shouldn't that be some sort of oxymoron because of the juxtaposition of gloomy and sun? Well, in any case it fits with how I've been feeling today. The rest of my week was wonderful - I was able to catch up with several friends I haven't seen all quarter, and I had a great time hanging out with the usuals, playing games, eating candy, and talking up a storm. Frankly, however, today has been a bust, apart from the knitting I've accomplished.
But this is a knitting blog, so I get to come here and celebrate having completed the body of my sweater! Now it just needs sleeves. I need to get some better pictures for you guys :)

I'm planning a massive shop update over at etsy later on in the week, so I'll be posting a little bit about those projects here soon, too. Right now it's back to working on a midterm paper and moping about how exhausted I am. Grump grump grump...

FO! (Functional Object)

So here is my mini, makeshift tea cozy:

It's using a yarn called "Licorice" that I bought at a JoAnn's clearance sale (50% off! woohoo!), and just a bit of ribbon threaded through eyelets (yo, k2tog). Not the most exciting project ever, as I just knit a rectangle with ribbing at each end and garter stitch borders, but it seems to work well for keeping the teapot warm until I'm ready for my refill.

Otherwise, my weekend looked like this:

I was camped out on my bed studying for a Hebrew midterm this morning (8am! gross!) and translating some New Testament Greek for another class, plus you can see the top-down raglan I started in Lion Brand Wool-Ease, color: Natural Heather. I'll give you more info about the sweater in a bit, but I'm thinking I will include 3/4 length or long sleeves with a little button detail.

More soon!

Blogger (Silent) Poetry Reading

In honor of St. Brigid's feast day (she is a saint close to my heart, the subject of my undergraduate thesis), post a favorite poem, a poem new to you, anything that touches you today.

The Song Of Wandering Aengus

I went out to the hazel wood,
Because a fire was in my head,
And cut and peeled a hazel wand,
And hooked a berry to a thread;
And when white moths were on the wing,
And moth-like stars were flickering out,
I dropped the berry in a stream
And caught a little silver trout.
When I had laid it on the floor
I went to blow the fire aflame,
But something rustled on the floor,
And some one called me by my name:
It had become a glimmering girl
With apple blossom in her hair
Who called me by my name and ran
And faded through the brightening air.
Though I am old with wandering
Through hollow lands and hilly lands.
I will find out where she has gone,
And kiss her lips and take her hands;
And walk among long dappled grass,
And pluck till time and times are done
The silver apples of the moon,
The golden apples of the sun.

I've finished a scarf and a shawl, and I've started another scarf. It's been sort of dark and dreary around here (at least during the hours when I've been at home), so I haven't taken pictures yet. Hopefully I'll have them for you tomorrow!
